The Enriques brought in the New Year with a nice relaxing night at home. We were in bed right after watching Dick Clark count down New York's New Year's Eve. We spent a relaxing New Year's lunch at home with Joe, Rupal, and my mom. Then we got to have a nice dinner with Meghan, Grandpa Bob, and Grandma Lorraine.

What a year Katy and I had. Time just flied by, doesn't it? More so this year because another decade just went by. Wasn't it just not too long ago when it was Y2K? That was 10 years ago. Hard to believe.
Katy and I were talking about the movie "Father of the Bride" with Steve Martin. Martin Short plays that flamboyant Wedding Director named "Frank" pronounced "Fro-ahhh-nk". They were picking out wedding cakes and Steve Martin's character says "Welcome to the 90's Mr. Banks." The 90's? Can that really be 20 years ago? Yep.
Well the highlight of our year was, of course, Madison and Melanie. During the year, they went from a tine 5 pounds to a little over 20 pounds. Katy grabbed one a couple of weeks ago and weighed them on our scale at home. It's crazy for us to think that they are almost graduating from their first car seat. We'll get their official weight at their 1 year appointment. They were crawling at 6 months and have finally started taking steps on their own. Their step count is now 6 and climbing.
I'll have to admit, 0-4 months was pretty rough. Well I won't speak for Katy, but it was definitely rough for me. Months 5-11 are much easier and have been cruising right by. That may be aided that we have been getting a full night's rest for quite a while now. The girls themselves have been sleeping from 7pm - 5:45am. We'll usually take them out of bed at 6:15am. They have been on solid food for quite a while now. They almost won't eat anything but solid food. They are also slowly being transitioned to Vitamin D milk. Slowly. It's still weird to think that they are almost done with formula.
The girls are always on the go. Sometimes we wish that they would sit and cuddle more, but we know that active is healthy. They are enjoying crawling around, playing with their toys. They are like little magnets to Jackson's food and water bowls. Madison likes to play games. After she's done drinking, she likes throwing her sippy cup to the floor on purpose because she knows that somebody will pick it up and give it to her. Of course we only pick it up for her a couple of times. Both girls love playing peek-a-boo. Melanie loves to climb stairs. She doesn't have the opportunity to because of gates, but when we're supervising her, she's like a wind-up toy. Pull her back and off she goes. And then, there's the couch. They love the couch when mommy or daddy lets them play on there. They'll crawl to one end and back to the other, laughing the whole time. I know this will make some people cringe, but they also love being thrown into the couch cushions.
Both girls' motor skills are improving every day. It was amazing for us to see them putting a little block in the slot of the toy that Uncle Joe and Aunt Rupal got for them. That also means that they're doing stuff that we don't really want them to do. Like opening up the toilet seat and putting their little hands in there. Gross.
We also got another tooth! Finally! Both girls have had both bottom teeth for quite a while now. Nothing else has come in until this past weekend. Melanie had one push through the top. That usually means Madison is 3 days behind. The girls have also been really healthy. They got strep throat once, runny noses twice and that's about it. (Knock, knock, knock) The girls love bath night. They just like playing in the tub. When they aren't taking a bath and we're upstairs, they usually make it to the bathroom and they'll stand next to the empty tub looking in.
So this past year has flown right by and we're pretty sure that 2010 will fly just as fast. But we look forward to having another great year, enjoying life, and enjoying our little family as our girls continue to grow.

What a great New Year's update. I loved your recap on the year and yes, it's hard to belive the 90's were 20 years ago. The update on the girls was great to read with all their big girl steps and throwing sippy cups and of course playing in the dog bowls. It finally took Dylan 3, 1 min. timeouts before he clued in to the fact that we really mean NO, when it comes to playing in Marley's dog bowls. What a mess.
