Strep Throat

We've been wanting to take a trip up north to visit Marcia and Gary since the beginning of summer. The end of Fright Fest brings the end to another season at Six Flags. Since Katy's weekends are now open, it was a great time to go up north. We both took a half day last Friday and packed up the girls for the first trip in the minivan. Let me tell you, if we didn't have the minivan, we definitely would have needed to pull over a couple of times. The minivan allows us to access the girls in a way that we were not able to do with our old car.

After making good time up North, we unpacked the van and hung out with Marcia, Gary, and their neighbors, Bob and LuAnn. Gary did a fantastic job in baby/child-proofing the patio. After dinner, Katy and I were proud to let everybody know that the kids will sleep from 7 p.m. to 6 a.m. Little did we know that Madison would get up at around 9 and wouldn't get comfortable the ENTIRE night. We haven't had a night of that much broken sleep in months.

The next morning, Madison still couldn't get comfortable. We initially thought it was teething because she was drooling a lot. The only thing that would calm her down was a walk in the stroller. Because of the challenging hills up north, this is no easy task especially with the double-wide. Thanks to Grandma Marcia for doing the trip twice! Madison felt uncomfortable all day. Since she wasn't even really drinking her bottle, we decided to take the trip back home early just in case we needed to take Madison to the pediatrician. On Sunday, Madison seemed fine and we figured that her being uncomfortable was either due to teething of just a change in environment.

I had my first overnight work trip in a long time that Monday. And sure enough, Madison's started becoming uncomfortable again. Kate took her in to the Pediatrician that morning and they said she had Strep Throat. That's why the poor girl was uncomfortable, drooling because it was painful to swallow and not drinking her bottle for that same reason. Just as it is with everything else, the sister gets it a couple of days later. So after a couple of days of antibiotics (which they loved), the girls are back to their normal selves. The girls have been really healthy and have been clean of any sickness. We're happy to say that after 9 and a half months, this was their only sickness thus far. (Knock on wood...)

Thanks to Marcia for helping out with the girls over the weekend, and thank you to Katy who was able to shuttle both girls to the Pediatrician twice for their appointments while daddy was away for a couple of days. We would have hoped that since one of the twins got sick that maybe they would allow us to just call in for a prescription for the second. They didn't and wanted to check Melanie out anyways. At that point she didn't have Strep but they decided to give her a prescription anyways due to being "exposed" to Strep from her sister. Well why didn't they do that in the first place instead of having Katy go back there? Let's just hope that won't do that next time.
